Why exhibitors keep coming back

Shows are the only place where you watch a judge spend ten minutes on a bird that took you two years to breed and tell you exactly what it did and did not do well against the standard. That feedback compounds over seasons. Almost every breeder you recognise as serious has been showing for a decade or more — not because they love the ribbons, but because they love the loop.

Shows are also the densest place to meet other breeders. Two days at a national convention exposes you to lines of stock you would otherwise spend years hearing about second-hand. Most breeding-quality birds change hands quietly between exhibitors, in conversations that happen between classes.

If you have never shown before, a small local club show is the right entry point. Bring one bird, ask questions, and watch the judging. By the second show you will know how the system works and whether it fits the way you breed.
