The economics most breeders miss

The two numbers that swing breeding profitability the most are wean rate and price realisation. A 10-point improvement in wean rate compounds: more chicks sold against the same fixed feed bill drives the per-chick cost down sharply. Likewise, selling weaned, hand-tame chicks at a premium changes the unit economics more than shaving feed cost.

Time is the largest cost most spreadsheets ignore. A hand-fed clutch of large parrots can consume 4–6 hours of your day for weeks. Price your time at any reasonable hourly rate and many small breeding setups stop looking profitable on paper — but they remain valuable if you treat the operation as a hobby with revenue rather than a business.

Track everything for at least one full breeding cycle before scaling. Real numbers always differ from estimates; the question is by how much, and whether the gap is something you can close with experience.
